EllisDon Mourns the Loss of Senior Superintendent
EllisDon is sad to report the passing of Rocco Morra, Senior
Superintendent, at his home on Sunday June 5th, 2011. Mr. Morra was 64 years old.
Prior to joining EllisDon in 1977, Mr. Morra received his Civil Engineering degree from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute. Starting his career as a field engineer, Mr. Morra went back to school to become a Certified Journeyman Carpenter and graduated at the top of his class at Mohawk College.
"I recruited Rocco to EllisDon after we worked together at Mitchell Construction," said Rick Maggiacomo, EllisDon Executive Vice President. "I could tell he was a born leader and would be a huge asset to the company. As Rocco started to plan his retirement, he made a point of becoming a mentor to the younger generation of EllisDon leaders, helping them shape their career at a company he loved."
Mr. Morra's projects cover the gamut of the construction industry: Office buildings, subways and transit, hospitals, health care centres, sports complexes, condominiums and business parks. Highlight projects include both phases of the North American Life Towers in North York, over $250 million for IBM on two headquarters buildings and the $130M Meadowvale Business Park in Mississauga. All in, Rocco is responsible for well over $2 billion in first class construction projects across the GTA, and an even longer list of friendships and loyal clients.
"Toronto is dotted with hallmark buildings that aren't just a testimony to Rocco's building skills and leadership, but were key to EllisDon's success and growth" said Geoff Smith, President and CEO of EllisDon. "It was great to have him at EllisDon for so many years and thank goodness for us that we did. Our condolences to Rocco's family and friends."
